Press the Digital Crown and go to the Home screen. Removing the app and then re-downloading may fix your problem. You can easily check this by going to Settings > General > Background App Refresh. Please ensure that “Background App Refresh” is turned on for the Facebook and Messenger app. The Messenger app: And lastly, make sure that you are using the latest version of the app. If you are running watchOS 6, then you can directly update by going to Settings > General > Software Update on your Apple Watch. Apple Watch: On your iPhone, open the Watch app and tap My Watch. And if there is an update available, follow the onscreen instructions. iPhone: On your iPhone, go to Settings > General > Software Update. 
Furthermore, please update the Messenger app. Please update to the latest version of iOS and watchOS. Then press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears.
Apple Watch: Press and hold the side button until the power off slider appears. And, after your iPhone turns off, then press and hold the side button to turn on your device. Touch ID iPhone models: Press and hold the side button then drag the onscreen slider. After your iPhone turns off, to turn on your iPhone, press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo. Face ID iPhone models: Press and hold the volume up (or down) and the side buttons together until you see the power off slider. Restart your iPhone and then your Apple Watch. If Bluetooth is turned on, you can also try turning off (and wait 10 seconds) and on Bluetooth to see if this helps. You can check this by going to Settings > Bluetooth.
